Artist Statement
“Encounters in Ink: Faces of the Gulf and Arab World” is not just a series but a deeply personal journey that has spanned a decade, taking me through the diverse landscapes of the Gulf and Arab countries. From 2013 to 2023, I had the privilege of capturing the faces and stories of the people I met, and now, I invite you to share in this intimate exploration, feeling the same connection that I felt with each subject.
Using over-the-waist magazines and printed paper as my canvas, I embrace sustainability by giving new life to discarded materials. This choice reflects my work’s themes of transformation and resilience, encouraging appreciation for beauty in unexpected places.
Rooted in expressionism, my portraits delve beyond physical likeness to convey my subjects’ emotional and psychological landscapes. Each piece tells a story of culture, fashion, connection, and lifestyle, embodying the rich experiences of the Gulf and Arab regions.
“Encounters in Ink” is more than a portrayal of appearances; it explores lives shaped by social and political contexts. The series celebrates humanity’s diversity, offering a glimpse into the Middle East’s unique blend of tradition and modernity, struggle, and resilience. Through this work, I hope to foster a deeper understanding of Middle Eastern culture and encourage a dialogue that transcends borders.
