Artist Statement
“Mural Painting: Shadows of Culture” is a 25-year collection of large-scale public artwork, each mural portraying the unique cultural, social, and historical narratives of the communities where they are painted. The interactive process of creation involves a fluid exchange of ideas and emotions between the artist and the community, ensuring that each mural is a composite of the community’s myriad perspectives and experiences.
Themes such as the traditional rituals of the Maasai tribe in Africa, the modern struggles of urban youth in Asia, and the triumphs of indigenous communities in South America are explored, with the use of shadows in each piece symbolizing the depth and complexity of cultural identities and the often-overlooked nuances of daily existence.
The series serves as a homage to the resilience, joy, and richness of cultures worldwide, aiming to bridge communities, inspire dialogue, and celebrate the diverse beauty of our world through the vivid colors of our collective human experience. Each mural is a vibrant storytelling canvas that becomes an integral part of the community’s daily visual experience, reflecting and celebrating the human spirit in all its forms.
