Artist Statement

In Greek mythology, Gaia is the goddess of life and nourishment, revered as a mother, nurturer, and giver of life. Her influence spans cultures, from being worshipped as the feminine Earth Mother in prehistoric times, symbolizing fertility and agriculture, to her manifestation in Hinduism as Prithvi, the living Earth. In Southeast Asia, she is represented as Phra Mae Thorani in Buddhist scriptures and temples.

These diverse forms highlight a shared human reverence for life and nature. Mithraism, rooted in Persian traditions, and the worship of Gaia underscore the spiritual significance of the natural world. Whether the Earth’s vitality or the sun’s cosmic order, both traditions reflect a universal human tendency to honour celestial and terrestrial forces.

These cross-cultural connections underscore a universal acknowledgment of the sacred within nature. They bridge ancient belief systems worldwide, highlighting the shared human reverence for life and nature.
