Artist Statement
“Shadows of War” is not just a series of paintings; it’s a profound visual journey that explores the resilience and suffering of the Iranian people during the Iran War of 1979-1981, with a focus on the events in Khoramshahr. This collection reveals the city’s rich history, from its defence to its liberation, in a way that deeply immerses the viewer in the experience, making them feel like a part of the narrative.
Motivated by a desire to highlight the often-overlooked human stories of war, this series sheds light on the profound impact of the Iran War on its people, both during the conflict and in its enduring effects today. The deliberate use of narrative symbolism and expressionism in these works reflects the artist’s deep understanding of the conflicting emotions experienced by those who lived through these times.
Through bold colour contrasts and dynamic brushwork, each painting evokes the chaos and emotional turmoil of war, portraying the human condition under extreme circumstances. “Shadows of War” serves as a poignant tribute to the enduring spirit of the Iranian people, reminding us of the deep scars left by conflict and inviting reflection and understanding of war’s lasting impact on a nation’s collective memory.
