Artist Statement
In “Elegy of Heritage”, I use digital decoupage to explore the erosion of Persian heritage in contemporary Iran. Each piece celebrates Persian culture’s beauty with miniature paintings and calligraphy, symbolizing centuries of artistic expression.
Through intentional layering of modern and ancient imagery, I highlight the tension between tradition and the passage of time. The compositions aim to evoke both sorrow and resilience, mirroring the fractured state of cultural identity in modern Iran. Despite the decay, the series reflects the enduring spirit of a people determined to preserve their heritage in the face of adversity.
More than just documenting cultural decay, “Elegy of Heritage” serves as a call to action, urging viewers to engage with each piece’s narratives and recognize the profound impact of cultural destruction on a society’s memory. Ultimately, I hope this series sparks conversations about safeguarding cultural legacies and inspires a collective commitment to preserve our shared human history.
