Artist Statement
In “Forgotten People”, I delve into the untold stories and cultural heritage of the Qajar period in Iran, focusing on the tragic famine that claimed ten million lives. Using digital decoupage techniques, I digitally layer photographs, illustrations, and textures to create a visual narrative that honors those forgotten by history.
The Qajar period, from 1785 to 1925, was marked by historical, social, and environmental challenges, with the devastating famine exemplifying the hardships endured. “Forgotten People” weaves together fragments of untold stories, capturing the nuances of their lives and the cultural tapestry of the time.
Through a contemporary lens, I aim to give voice to the silent echoes of history, bridging the past and present. Each piece serves as a canvas for remembrance and acknowledgment of lives lost, striving to restore visibility to those overshadowed by time. This series invites viewers to reflect on the lives of individuals during the Qajar period, recognizing the collective impact of historical tragedies. “Forgotten People” is a visual homage to resilience, aiming to honor the enduring human spirit in the face of adversity during a challenging period in Iranian history.
