Artist Statement
In “Re-Orientalism”, I use digital decoupage to reimagine 19th-century Arab culture with a modern twist. This approach celebrates the richness of this historical era while moving away from stereotypes. By blending traditional and contemporary elements, I aim to create a more authentic portrayal of the people and traditions.
Digital decoupage allows me to layer historical imagery with a modern aesthetic, revealing the vibrancy and diversity of a culture that has evolved over time. Through this series, I aim to forge a connection between the past and present, inviting viewers to reflect on the resilience of cultural identity and the continuity of traditions.
As an artist in the digital realm, I utilize technology to breathe new life into historical narratives. The Re-Orientalism series pays homage to the people of the 19th-century Arab world, encouraging a reevaluation of cultural heritage in today’s context.
Re-Orientalism is an invitation to journey through time, integrating tradition and modernity. My hope is that this series will evoke an appreciation for the beauty and complexity of Arab culture and inspire a deeper understanding of our shared past.
