Artist Statement
In “Women of the Harem”, I unveil the lives of Iranian women in the Royal court during the Qajar period using digital decoupage techniques. This blend of tradition and modernity reimagines the experiences of women in the Harem, aiming to present a fresh perspective for the audience.
The Qajar era, from 1785 to 1925, was characterized by tradition, political complexities, and cultural transformations within the Harem. “Women of the Harem” employs digital decoupage to create a rich narrative that goes beyond conventional depictions of this historical period. This modern interpretation seamlessly integrates visual elements, aiming to capture the intricacies of Harem life, highlighting relationships and challenges faced by these women.
The contemporary vision acts as a bridge between the past and present, encouraging viewers to engage with the subject in a way that resonates with our modern understanding of gender and power dynamics. This emphasis fosters a sense of connection to the historical narrative.
“Women of the Harem” is an artistic endeavor and a reinterpretation of history through a modern lens, seeking to challenge stereotypes and invite viewers to reconsider the roles of women in the Harem. It offers a reflection on power, desire, and individuality within the context of the Qajar period, engaging the audience and capturing their interest.
