Artist Statement
“The Age of Transformation: Chronicles of Change”, delves into Emirati life and history, focusing on the period before the discovery of oil in the 1960s, known as the Age of Transformation. This collection showcases the resilience of the Emirati people during a time of significant change and development in the Gulf countries, particularly in Dubai and the Emirates.
My artistic approach combines contemporary and modern vision, aiming to connect the past and the present. By using historical photographs, I reinterpret and revitalize the stories of an earlier era. These images are transferred onto various materials, employing painting and photo-collage techniques to bridge the audience to the past and present seamlessly.
The selection of diverse materials metaphorically represents the multifaceted nature of this transformative period. Historical photographs are displayed on different items and tools, each imbued with its own historical significance. This mix transcends traditional boundaries, symbolizing the adaptive spirit of a community facing significant change.
“The Age of Transformation” encourages the audience to reflect on the enduring spirit of the Emirati people as they embrace the challenges and opportunities presented by the changing landscape. By combining historical photographs, diverse materials, paintings, and photo collages, this collection fosters a deeper understanding of the individuals who shaped the foundations of modern-day Dubai and the Emirates, enriching our appreciation of Emirati culture and history.
